Home Key to Contributors
1st At least 18 Little Grebes and a drake Goosander were seen from the South Shore (GE). A Woodcock was seen (GR). A Stonechat was on the North Heath (KW). The gull-roost held 3 (adult, 3cy, 1cy) Caspian Gulls and 2 (adult, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).
S 2nd A Dunlin, Kingfisher, 2 Grey Wagtails, 14 Gadwall and at least 4 Goosanders and 15 Cormorants were present (PW). Conditions were rather murky but the 1cy Glaucous Gull, an adult Caspian Gull and an adult Yellow-legged Gull were found (CwS).
The 1cy Glaucous Gull was also seen at Cannock Tip during the day (CwS).
S 3rd The 1cy Glaucous Gull and an adult Yellow-legged Gull roosted (CwS).
4th Three Goosanders, 15 Cormorants, 2 Gadwall, a Grey Wagtail and a male Stonechat were noted (PW). 126 Lapwings and 35 Wigeon were present and 6 Greylag Geese flew over the Swag (GE). The 1cy Glaucous Gull and a 2cy Yellow-legged Gull roosted (CwS, GE).
5th No records
6th Two Treecreepers were at Fly Pool boardwalk and at least 15 Cormorants, a Buzzard and Grey Wagtail were present (PW).
7th Two adult Caspian Gulls, 2 (adult, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (GE, CwS) and an adult Mediterranean Gull (IB) were seen in the roost.
8th The 1cy Glaucous Gull and a 2cy Yellow-legged Gull were in the roost (CwS).
4 Goldfinches and 3 Fieldfares were amongst the few birds seen on a snowy Cuckoo Bank (GHa).
S 9th The roost held 2 adult Caspian Gulls and a 2cy Yellow-legged Gull (CwS).
S 10th Two Chiffchaffs, a Water Rail and a Kingfisher were present and a 2cy Iceland Gull was present in the roost until around 15:15 when it flew south-west. The roost also held a 1cy Glaucous Gull, an adult Kittiwake, 2 adult Caspian Gulls and 4 (3 adult, 2cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).
11th Four (2 adult, 3cy, 1cy) Yellow-legged Gulls, an adult Caspian Gull and the 1cy Glaucous Gull roosted (CwS).
12th A Red Kite flew west, low over the south-shore, at around 14:30 (AL). The monthly WeBS count produced the following totals: 90 Mute Swans, 6 Greylag Geese, 68 Canada Geese, 42 Wigeon, 16 Gadwall, 34 Teal, 229 Mallard, 2 Shoveler, 3 Pochard, 378 Tufted Ducks, 24 Goldeneye, 18 Goosanders, 84 Cormorants, 2 Grey Herons, 25 Little Grebes, 25 Great Crested Grebes, 12 Moorhens, 850 Coot and 20 Lapwings. An adult Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Grey Wagtails and 10 Fieldfares were also noted (GE). The gull roost held a 1cy Glaucous Gull, adult Caspian Gull and a 4cy Yellow-legged Gull (CwS, IB).

13th An adult Glaucous Gull roosted along with 2 adult Caspian Gulls, 2 (adult, 4cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and an adult Mediterranean Gull (CwS).
14th An adult Caspian Gull and 2 (adult, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls roosted (CwS).
15th A Little Egret flew north and the gull roost held 2 adult Caspian Gulls and 2 (adult, 4cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).
S 16th The adult Glaucous Gull, an adult Caspian Gull and 3 (2 adults, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls roosted (CwS).
S 17th A large influx of Tufted Ducks was noted totalling around 600. The gull-roost held an adult Glaucous Gull, a 2cy Caspian Gull, 2 (adult, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and an adult Mediterranean Gull (CwS).
18th

There was no sign of the influx of Tufted Ducks as only 229 (174 drakes, 55 ducks) were counted. A Kingfisher and 123 Lapwings were also noted (GE). An adult Caspian Gull and 2 adult Yellow-legged Gulls were seen before fog descended (CwS).

On a misty Cuckoo Bank single Buzzard, Raven, Pheasant, Snipe and Treecreeper were noted (GHa).
19th No records.
20th A Little Egret was in Fly (KW) and remained to roost. The gull-roost held 2 (adult, 2cy) Caspian Gulls, 4 (adult, 3cy, 2 1cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and 3 Mediterranean Gulls. An influx of 1cy Herring Gulls was also noted (CwS).
21st A Willow Tit was in song, a Chiffchaff and Grey Wagtail were noted and a Little Egret roosted. Two Yellow-legged Gulls were amongst the gull-roost (CwS).
22nd Fog prevented any meaningful examination of the gull-roost (CwS).
S 23rd The gull-roost held a 1cy Glaucous Gull, adult Caspian Gull, 5 (3 adult, 4cy and 2cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and an adult Mediterranean Gull. The Little Egret also roosted again (CwS).
S 24th

In the roost there were 2 adult Caspian Gulls, 4 (2 adult, 3cy, 1cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and an adult Mediterranean Gull. The 3cy Yellow-legged Gull was interesting as it had a well-defined hood. The Little Egret roosted (CwS).

On Cuckoo Bank there were 30 Redwings (KW).
25th

A Little Egret, an Oystercatcher, over 70 Lapwings, 2 Pochard, a Stonechat, 18 Goosander, 24 Goldeneye, 6 Common Gulls, an adult Yellow-Legged Gull, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtails and a Kingfisher (JK). In the roost there were 2 (adult, 1cy) Caspian Gulls and 3 (2 adult and 1w) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).

26th A 1cy Glaucous Gull, an adult Caspian Gull, an adult Mediterranean Gull, 3 (2 adult, 4cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and the Little Egret roosted (CwS).
27th In the roost there were 2 (3cy, 1cy) Caspian Gulls, an adult Mediterranean Gull and 2 (adult, 1cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).
28th The roost held a 2cy Iceland Gull, 2 (adult, 1cy) Caspian Gulls and 3 (2 adult, 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS).
29th

The gull-roost held a 2cy Iceland Gull, a 1cy Glaucous Gull, a 2cy Caspian Gull, an adult Mediterranean Gull and 4 (3 adults, 4cy) Yellow-legged Gulls (CwS). At least 11 (3 drakes, 8 ducks) Goldeneyes were present.

S 30th The roost held 2 (adult, 2cy) Caspian Gulls, 3 (adult, 2cy, 1cy) Yellow-legged Gulls and 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls. There were also 2 leucistic birds: an adult all white Lesser Black-backed Gull with a hint of dark in primaries and an adult Herring Gull with white in the mantle (CwS).
S 31st Torrential rain made viewing very difficult but an adult Glaucous Gull (a smaller bird and with more head markings than the adult during mid-December), an adult Caspian Gull and 2 (4cy and hooded 3cy) Yellow-legged Gulls were seen in the roost (CwS).
